Reviewers frequently highlight the distinctive smoky flavor of their brisket, sausages, and sandwiches, as well as the well-balanced BBQ sauces. Despite the airport setting, which naturally necessitates disposable serviceware and a more casual atmosphere, the restaurant maintains a reputation for friendly and efficient staff who provide quick service—an appreciated feature for those with limited time between flights. Customers acknowledge the reasonable pricing given the airport context and appreciate the convenient location near key gates, making it an accessible option for a satisfying meal. Overall, The Salt Lick successfully translates its traditional barbecue experience into the fast-paced environment of an airport, consistently meeting expectations for taste, service, and convenience.
I've had Salt Lick a few times before and was doing a layover at DFW so I needed some lunch. While it isn't exactly the main location for the restaurant, I was very pleased with the flavor in my smoked sausage sandwich and mac 'n' cheese. The gentleman ringing up the order was pleasant and Catrina was very lovely on the way out. It definitely hit the spot and glad I can still rely on Salt Lick for a good meal.
We really enjoyed this bbq restaurant. You are at an airport so, of course, it will never be the same as being to a regular place (disposable plates and cutlery, etc.) Still, the food was delicious and the service was quick, which is what you want when you are flying. Bbq sauce excellent!
Absolutely delicious and friendly staff. You can smell it coming down the escalator. For 20 bucks a good sausage sandwich with fries and drink. For an airport price that is great
I have flown thru DFW a number of times. I lived in Dallas and miss good bbq. I goofed and never got to the original location in Driftwood. This is my second best option. Everytime I fly thru DFW I head and pick up 3 or 4 brisket sandwiches to take with me. They have always been so nice here and get my sandwiches for me quickly. Plus the location which is by gate a16 is also right under the tram stop for all the terminals. Yiu can get off the tram for gate a16 and head downstairs on the south side and salt lick is right there. No matter what terminal you are in. You can hit salt lick. To me this is a no brainer. Go to driftwood if you can. If not hit this place everytime you fly thru dfw.
First time in Texas, Needed BBQ. Nice guy at the counter said Brisket for sure so we went with the Chop Chop sandwich with Brisket and Sausage. Great smoke flavor, good BBQ sauce, awesome bread and speedy fast service. Now time for a nap on the plane.
It smells so good as I was walking to my gate on September 24th that after dropping off my luggage I had to walk back and order me some bbq. The brisket was so delicious and tender I didn't really care for the potato salad so didn't eat it. To me it was too late vinegary but some people like that. I enjoyed everything else.
The true rating is more like a 4, but factoring in the location(DFW terminal "A", it is worthy of a FIVE. At least today. BBQ this good shouldn't be so easily accessible by your average tourist!!! I've never been more happy and conflicted at any point in my entire life. It's a strange emotional duo to take on at once. At least for me.
Fabulous BBQ hangout at Dallas fort Worth airport. Best food I've ever eaten in the airport and the service was Top notch! Terrell hooked me up with the best ribs I've ever eaten at a restaurant! Try their food - I promise you won't be disappointed!
